In a big boost to the country's health sector, Ashghal on Sunday awarded six contracts totalling QR1bn to build health centres in five areas besides the National Health Laboratory Complex in Mesaimeer.
The contracts awarding ceremony was held in the presence of Ashghal president Saad bin Ahmed al-Muhannadi and Primary Health Care Corporation's (PHCC) general manager assistant for administration and financial affairs Dr Musallam al-Nabit.
While thanking HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani for his liberal financial support and continuous patronage for various projects, including those in the health sector, the Ashghal president said the new health centres would be constructed in Al Khor, Al Wakrah South, Al Mashaf, Al Sadd and Ain Khaled apart from establishing a state-of-the-art National Health Laboratory in Mesaimeer.
The new health centres together are expected to serve about 3,500 visitors daily, it was informed at the meeting.
Al-Muhannadi said the works authority is keen to encourage national companies to implement projects in line with the directions of the government.
He assured the contractors that the authority would help to ease whatever obstacles they faced in implementing the projects.
The new projects, said al-Muhannadi, have come as part of achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030, which is at the top of Ashghal’s strategy. The top Ashghal official said the authority is always ready to provide integrated infrastructure and public facilities to serve all sectors across the country.
He also recalled that Ashghal has implemented 24 health buildings between 2004 and 2018 of which more than half of them (including a hospital) were implemented in the last four years.
While expressing happiness with the services rendered by the country's contractors, the Ashghal president said the authority's priority is for local and national companies for implementing the projects.
"This is in line with the directives of the country's wise leadership," he added.
Al-Muhannadi said the authority has implemented double the number of health centres that were implemented in the past.
He also informed four more health centres are in the design stage and they will come up later in Madinat Khalifa South, Umm Ghuwailina, Al-Thamid and Nuaija.
Also speaking, Dr Musallam al-Nabit thanked the Ashghal president for the authority's steady support for facilitating new projects in the last few years.
He informed that two new health centres would be ready for opening before the year-end and two have already been opened.
