Ooredoo Myanmar has handed over two primary healthcare centres to the Ministry of Health and Sports for the benefit of communities in Kyar Kan village in Kyauktan Township, Yangon Region, and Lay Thar village in Ma-Ubin Township, Ayeyarwaddy Region.

People in these communities have faced difficulties in accessing proper healthcare service pertaining to maternal care, newborns, child health and infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and malaria. These difficulties could raise the levels of maternal and child mortality, with most deaths occurring from preventable causes.
Therefore, Ooredoo provided $3.1mn to build 21 primary healthcare centres across Myanmar by partnering with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) to manage the construction of primary healthcare centres, the company said in a press statement.

With these proper healthcare centres, nearly 3,000 people in Kyar Kan and nearby villages in Kyauktan Township and more than 3,000 people in Lay Thar, Alan, Wae Daung and Lae Kaing villages in Ma-Ubin Township will benefit in terms of safe childbirth and a decrease in infectious diseases, the statement noted. Vikram Sinha, CEO of Ooredoo Myanmar, said: “We want the people of Myanmar to have a better future. It is a part of our commitment to Myanmar in terms of CSR and, therefore, we have fully funded the construction of primary healthcare centres for communities in rural and peri-urban areas across Myanmar to support better healthcare services.”
