HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi has stressed the importance of creating a school environment that is attractive to both students and teachers.
He also highlighted the need to abide by school regulations that have been developed for the benefit of students and to help improve their academic performance, in addition to preparing them for the future.
This necessitates non-leniency in the implementation of the regulations, he noted.
HE the Minister made the observations on Thursday while visiting Zubayr Bin Al Awam Primary School for Boys in Madinat Khalifa North.
During the visit, the minister was briefed on the educational process and the school's preparedness to start the new academic year, especially in view of the fact that it is among the country's new schools. It has two classes, fifth and sixth, with a capacity of 600 students.
HE Dr al-Hammadi reviewed the distribution of textbooks and met with teachers and subject co-ordinators. He also learned about their views on the textbooks printed this year in Qatar and their qualitative and technical aspects.
The Minister listened to students' aspirations, concerns and interests, and urged them to take advantage of their time, opportunities and academic options provided by the State to enhance their academic performance.
On Wednesday, HE Dr al-Hammadi had stressed that the quality of education would remain one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in the light of rapid global changes in all fields. This, in turn, required teachers to come up with new methods of delivering information to students and help them discover their talent and maintain their national identity.
Addressing a reception held by the ministry to welcome new Qatari teachers who have begun their first year of teaching in the 2018-19 academic year, he noted that this process requires connecting school education with the rapidly changing digital world. It also requires enhancing social partnerships and advancing the role of parents in education.
He added that as part of the commitment to attract teachers to public schools, the ministry worked on creating an inspirational educational environment where teachers felt proud and appreciated for their contributions from a financial as well as an ethical standpoint.
