Special envoy meets UN Afghan official

Dr Mutlaq bin Majid al-Qahtani, the special envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Tadamichi Yamamoto, who is currently visiting Qatar. During the meeting, they discussed developments in Afghanistan as well as efforts to bring peace to the country and enhance prospects for joint co-operation. The special envoy affirmed Qatar’s continued efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Afghan crisis, adding there can be no military solution. He stressed the need to strengthen international and regional co-ordination to achieve peace in Afghanistan. The UN official praised Qatar’s efforts in order to achieve peace in Afghanistan and a ceasefire between the Afghan government and the Taliban movement.
