Doha Municipality has announced a comprehensive plan of action for Eid al-Adha, which includes intensifying and tightening health control at food establishments, especially slaughterhouses, butcheries, consumer complexes and others.
According to the plan, the food control unit at the health control department will start its intensive inspection campaign on August 12 at shops selling sweets and nuts as well as all shopping malls and consumer outlets within Doha Municipality, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has said in a press statement.
Shops selling meat, fish and poultry will also be covered as part of this initiative, which is aimed at ensuring the safety and health of the products offered for sale.
There will also be special focus on the central market, including the fruits and vegetables section, while the meat health unit at the department will intensify its control operations at slaughterhouses in the central market, the statement notes. It will work in shifts to keep a close watch on the slaughtering process during the Eid al-Adha season.
Similarly, fish sourced from the sea to be displayed directly at the Doha Corniche will be checked before being sold to the public, the MME said.
Inspectors of the food control unit in the Doha Industrial Area will conduct an intensive search campaign at food factories there. Complaints will be received daily from 8am until 5pm, and from 5pm until 2am. The aim is to detect violations regarding the stipulated food health and safety standards and take the necessary action against the violators.
In the meantime, inspectors from the general control department will follow up on public hygiene efforts in the morning and evening, in addition to spotting unlicensed street vendors in co-operation with the security department concerned at the Ministry of Interior.
The pest and rodent control unit will spray Eid prayer yards and mosques ahead of Eid al-Adha in different parts of Doha. Also, public parks are being prepared to receive visitors during the Eid holidays.
