An Afghan official on Friday described the kidnapping and killing of three foreigners in Kabul province as a terrorist incident, most probably carried out by Taliban militants.
Taliban insurgents are active in some parts of the Mussahi district, where the bodies of the employees from France-based company Sodexo were found, Kabul police chief spokesman Hashmat Stanakzai said.
They were ordinary employees of the company, according to the latest investigation by Kabul police.
The driver of the company that was carrying the workers at the time of the attack is under investigation by the Afghan spy agency, Stanakzai said.
The agency confirmed that an investigation is underway, but did not give details.
A spokesman for the Taliban, Zabiullah Mujahid, denied involvement in the incident.
Sodexo meanwhile confirmed the death of its three employees in Kabul. "The company is working closely with the authorities in Kabul and will share further information when available," it said.
The company, which is headquartered in France, provides services such as food provision. It is not clear whether the company's clients include the foreign military alliance operating in Afghanistan.
The three foreign nationals were Macedonian, Indonesian and Indian staffers of Sodexo. They were kidnapped close to their company premises and subsequently killed by unknown gunmen in eastern Mussahi district of Kabul province on Thursday morning.
