People in Qatar will be able to see five planets of the solar system in the sky this month as the planets come close to the moon, Qatar Calendar House (QCH) has said.
The five planets are Uranus, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Mars.
To begin with, Uranus will approach the moon on Friday and be at an angular distance of five degrees from the northern moon's centre, QCH astronomy expert Dr Beshir Marzouk has said in a statement.
People in Qatar will be able to observe Uranus and the moon together over the eastern horizon from the moonrise time at 10.31pm until sunrise on Saturday.
Then, on August 14, Qatar's residents will have a good chance of seeing Venus approach the new crescent of Dhul-Hija, according to QCH.
Venus will be at angular distance of six degrees from the southern moon's centre.
People can observe the planet and the moon with their naked eye over the western horizon after sunset at 6.10pm, until the setting time of Venus at 11.32pm, Dr Marzouk adds.
Jupiter will come close to the moon on August 17, when it will be at 4.5 degrees from the southern moon's centre.
People in Qatar will be able to observe Jupiter and the moon together in the southwest direction of the sky after sunset at 6.08pm, continuing until the setting time of Jupiter at 10.15pm.
Next is Saturn, which will be at two degrees from the southern moon's centre on August 21. Qatar residents will have a chance of observing Saturn and the moon together with their naked eye over the southeast horizon from sunset at 6.04pm until the setting time of Saturn at 1.03am the next day, the statement explains.
Finally, on August 23, Mars will be at six degrees from the southern moon's centre in the southeast direction. Qatar residents can see Mars and the moon together over the southeast horizon after sunset at 6.02pm, continuing until the setting time of Mars at 2.43am the next day, QCH adds.
