In the framework of implementing His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani's vision of promoting the human development sector by supporting and attracting Qatari talent in various fields, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani has issued directives to increase the allowances of students enrolled in the "Tomouh" programme.
The initiative is aimed at encouraging Qatari students, as well as Qatari women's children, carriers of Qatari documents, and Qatar born children to join the Tomouh (Faculty of Education) programme.
According to the prime minister's directives, Qatari male and female students' allowances for this programme will be as follows:
* Students with major in English or Arabic language, mathematics and science are to receive an allowance of QR10,000 a month.
* Students in other disciplines are to receive an allowance of QR8,000 a month, in addition to all allowances and other benefits specified by the government scholarship programme, such as the one-time QR5,000 computer allowance, and the QR5,000 books allowance for each academic year.
As for non-Qatari children of Qatari women, Qatari document holders and Qatar born students, tuition fees of the "Tomouh" programme will be paid for the whole scholarship term, in addition to QR3,000 per month instead of QR3,000 per semester.
The directives of HE the Prime Minister aim to support the "Tomouh" programme, and make it attractive not only to Qatari but to other category students specified in the directives also.
The "Tomouh" programme is running under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in partnership with the College of Education at Qatar University and in coordination with the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs.
In addition, the decision to increase the allowances of the "Tomouh" programme students aims to encourage Qataris as well as other categories to major in educational specialties, and thus meet the needs of the labour market in the fields of education, and Qatarise teaching staff in state schools, which will be reflected positively on the entire educational process.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education launched the "Tomouh" programme years ago, to meet the needs of government educational institutions for teachers and educators.
"Tomouh" is part of the State's efforts to invest in human resources and build national capacities that lead the educational work, especially in teaching. The programme is part of an integrated system to elevate the academic and professional level of teachers and to prepare them according to national curriculum standards, which will necessarily enhance the quality of education in schools, thus contributing to the achievement of Qatar National Vision 2030.
