Dutch star Wesley Sneijder scored two goals as Al Gharafa beat Oman’s Al Nasr at Al Saada Stadium in the opening clash of the four-nation tournament on Sunday in Oman.
Tomorrow, Gharafa will meet Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien, who edged Egypt’s Ismaily on penalties on Sunday.
Sneijder found the net in the 55th and 75th minutes.
Al Gharafa started the match with Yusuf, Udya, Yusuf Muftah, Mahdi Ali, Said Haji, Diego Amado, Abdul Aziz Hatem, Osman Elihari, Wesley Sneijder, Vlaidmir Weiss and Ahmed Alaa.
In what was a commanding performance, Al Gharafa attacked against the home sides and created at least three scoring opportunities but could not net the ball in the first half.
In the second half, Al Nasr ratcheted up attacks but Al Gharafa’s double strike completed a big win.
Al Gharafa are in Oman to prepare for the new QNB Stars League season which kicks off on August 4.
Al Gharafa were in the Netherlands for a pre-season training camp that was held from July 1 to 18.
The Qatari side featured in a number of friendly matches during their pre-season training camp.
