Sidra Medicine has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Qatar University Health (QU Health) to offer clinical training and rotation programmes for students from QU’s Colleges of Health Sciences, Medicine and Pharmacy.
The agreement is an extension of the MoU last year to support the education and training of QU students, according to a press statement.
Clinical training is a mandatory part of the curriculum required for graduation for QU students studying medicine, pharmacy and health sciences. The agreement will allow the students to gain practical experience and hands-on training at Sidra Medicine, giving them the required clinical skills when interacting with healthcare teams and patients within a hospital environment, the statement notes.
Peter Morris, chief executive officer of Sidra Medicine, said: “As an academic medical centre, Sidra Medicine is committed to playing a key role in the development of the next generation of healthcare professionals. We look forward to welcoming future healthcare practitioners from Qatar University to enhance their knowledge, patient communication and clinical skills. Together with our diverse teams, they will be helping advance the quality of patient- and family-focused care in Qatar.”
Dr Khalid al-Ansari, division chief of Emergency Medicine, whose team expects to welcome the first batch of QU pharmacy students - including those under the Doctor of Pharmacy programme - early next year, said: “We are honoured to contribute to the training of Qatar University students, for the development of an exceptional healthcare workforce for Qatar. This is an exciting time for my team as we look forward to welcoming QU pharmacy and medical students, who will be training alongside fellows and residents in medical toxicology and other specialties.”
Prof Egon Toft, vice-president for Medical and Health Sciences at QU, added: “Qatar University Health continues to build on the special relationship with Sidra Medicine. We are very excited that both Qatar University's instructors and students from the various fields of medicine, pharmacy and health sciences will now benefit from Sidra Medicine’s exemplary healthcare services. I am sure that this collaboration will positively mark our students’ professional competencies and practical experiences."
