Qatar University (QU) yesterday signed an agreement with Qatari German Medical Devices Company to collaborate in the field of research and development.
QU vice president for research and graduate studies Prof Mariam al-Maadeed and Qatari German Medical Devices Company chairman Hamad bin Khamis al-Kubaisi signed the agreement in the presence of officials from both institutions.
The pact will serve to leverage QU’s research infrastructure and faculty expertise in developing state-of-the-art medical products. Both parties will collaborate to develop safe syringes technology and to own patents in an area critical to the company.
Prof Mariam al-Maadeed said, “This agreement underlines Qatar University’s continuous efforts to find solutions to the challenges that are facing the local industry.
Through this agreement, we seek to strengthen the relationship with the private sector in the country and to expand co-operation between QU and the Qatari German Medical Devices Company in the field of scientific research and development supporting the medical industry in Qatar.”
Al-Kubaisi said, “The Qatari German Medical Devices Company seeks to develop its strategy as one of the pioneering providers of medical services through its developed plans which involve new programmes, projects, and activities. The collaboration with Qatar University will get us a step closer to achieve this future vision.”
QU’s Research Planning and Development Office director Dr Aiman Erbad said, “A team from the College of Engineering and the Office of Intellectual Property and Innovation will work to develop and protect the new safe syringes technology.
This agreement is part of QU’s strategy to increase knowledge transfer with the industrial sector in Qatar and contribute to the nation’s efforts towards economic diversification.”
