Education Above All (EAA) Foundation’s programme, Reach Out to Asia (Rota), on Monday kicked off a three-day Partners Advocacy Conference, an opportunity to promote sustainable education through intellectual debates.
The event will help in creating practical and academic discussions, exchanging ideas, and achieving a unified advocacy path with international partners towards sustainable education for children.
EAA CEO Fahad al-Sulaiti, Rota executive director Essa al-Mannai, representatives of a number of international organisations and several guests were present at the opening ceremony at the Student Centre of Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Education City.
In order to reach out to as many regions as possible, Rota has tied up with many renowned organisations. Some of these participating countries and organisations include Care Foundation / International Non-Governmental Organisation (Ingo), Hashoo Foundation from Pakistan; Unicef, Dhaka Ahsania Mission, Gove from Bangladesh, Nepal, Philippines, Turkey and Indonesia; Unicef, Titian Foundation, Read Ingo, Dalit NGO Federation, Forum for Awareness and Youth Activity, Plan International Sudan, Mercy Corps Ingo from Tunisia; Norwegian Council RC Ingo from Jordan; Anera, Sonbola, American University in Beirut from Lebanon; and FC Barcelona, among others.
Al- Mannai said, “ Technology and globalisation made societies more connected than ever, but intolerance and conflict remain widespread. Prospects for sustainable equitable, and inclusive development are vast, but challenges are sharp and complex. The world is changing – education adapt itself and must also change. That’s the core objective of hosting this summit and we are sure that Rota Partners Advocacy Conference would be able to bring to life the burning issues that the society is facing and would derive at workable solutions that can be attained by getting together.”.
Juliette Touma, Unicef Regional Office representative, said, "We have worked at Unicef for many years with a number of Qatari active institutions, including Education Above All foundation. The aim of this partnership is to jointly reduce the number of out of school children and ensure they receive quality education. A remarkable change was made at this level - taking the efforts exerted to support the Syrian refugee children into consideration - however much more work is still waiting."
Dr Khuloud al-Khatib, representative of the Geneva Institute for Human Rights at the conference, said, "This meeting is of great importance as it sets a common road map for sustainable education among all concerned parties. By promoting the right to education, we aim to enhance the individual's ability to participate in the society, and that’s a goal that we believe can be achieved through our joint efforts with partners and colleagues on the same mission.“
The conference intends to walk with partners the road of transformative education by focusing on a consultative, participatory approach to more strategically identify, anchor and jointly plan to provide access to quality education. It also intends to create an intellectual discussion, exchange ideas, and plan together to achieve a unified advocacy path with partners towards sustainable education for children where Rota works.
