More than 5,500 football fans from the Egyptian and other Arab communities attended the Khalifa International Stadium Fan Zone on Tuesday evening, to support the Egyptian national team in their second 2018 FIFA World Cup match against Russia.
Organised by Aspire Zone Foundation, the lively atmosphere once again demonstrated that the fan zone is the ideal setting to enjoy the tournament, with widespread enthusiasm and cheering from spectators throughout the match. The match ended with a 3-1 win for the Russian team against the Egyptians. Russia’s first goal came from an own goal by Egyptian player Ahmed Fathy, followed by two consecutive goals from players Denis Cheryshev and Artem Dzyuba, while Egypt’s star Mohammad Salah scored the team’s only goal from a penalty kick. With this win, the Russian national team has booked the first seat at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia round of 16.
This year’s fan zone is sponsored by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (main partner) and Ooredoo (main sponsor), as well as Al Attiya Motors and Trading Co, Mannai Trading Co (Cisco), Witr Jewellery, Royal Air Maroc and Pepsi.
The fan zone is the ideal location for the country’s football fans to celebrate the most anticipated sporting event in the world, to follow World Cup games and keep up-to-date with the all the action. Games will be screened there every day throughout the tournament.
