The Qatar National Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza will embark on the second phase of emergency humanitarian relief programme for the residents of the Gaza Strip after the Eid al-Fitr holiday, a senior official said Monday.

The committee has completed a $15mn first phase of the project which began in mid-February last year, its chairman Ambassador Mohamed al-Emadi said.
The programme is implemented under the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
Al-Emadi said he will visit the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian territories after the Eid holiday to oversee the completion of the second phase announced in early May.
The new phase includes renovating the homes of poor families at a cost of $3mn, he said.
Over the past three years, al-Emadi added, the committee has renovated and constructed more than 400 apartments and homes in three phases.
He said Qatar provided another grant of QR50mn in early May for humanitarian causes, including health, education and housing, in addition to food especially in the holy month of Ramadan.
The chairman said the committee concluded an important phase of relief projects of $15mn by the end of the holy month.
The project included Iftar for 1mn people at a cost of about $2mn that was implemented in the name of His Highness the Amir, he said.
Food parcels were distributed to more than 40,000 poor families in Gaza, he said.
Al-Emadi said $4mn in cash was given to about 40,000 poor families.
He said the committee responded to an appeal by the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip to supply fuel to operate its hospitals for at least two months, in co-ordination with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) at a cost of $500,000.
The first batch of medicines and medical supplies costing about $2.5mn was delivered to hospitals as urgent humanitarian relief in light of the acute shortage experienced by the ministry.
Al Emadi thanked King Mohamed VI of Morocco and the Moroccan government for sending a field hospital to the Gaza Strip to help alleviate the sufferings of the families in Gaza.
During his upcoming visit, he said he will also pay the university grant worth about $2.5mn that will be given to poor students who cannot pay tuition fees.
Earlier, a $1mn grant benefited about 2,250 university students in Gaza, he said.
Al Emadi said a clothing distribution project benefited more than 1,000 poor children and orphans in the governorates of the Gaza Strip. The committee also distributed sweets, toys and gifts to dozens of children suffering from cancer and other diseases at the Dr Abdulaziz Al Rantisi Hospital and the main children's hospital in Gaza on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr in order to bring joy to children living under difficult conditions in Gaza.
The directives of His Highness the Amir came in response to the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the UN appeals to address the difficult conditions facing the residents due to the severe shortage of medicines and fuel for operating hospitals as well as shortage of basic materials as a result of the blockade.
