Janaka turned in a stellar all-round display to propel Garvey Lions to a huge 77-run crushing win over Redco in the Ramadan Cup Twenty20 Cricket Tournament, organised by the Qatar Cricket Association. At the Asian Town Cricket Stadium, Garvey Lions rode Janaka’s fiery batting to post a mammoth 186 for six. Rajeewa (five for 19) and Janaka took eight wickets between them to send the rivals crashing to the big defeat.
Janaka dominated the early parts of the B and C Divisions category match and put together a 66-run stand for the second wicket with Nuwan, who contributed 25 with a six and two fours.
Janaka continued to collect runs at a brisk pace and was the fifth player at 174 after hammering five sixes and nine boundaries in his 57-ball knock. He was a bit unfortunate not to cap his effort with a hundred, falling short by five runs.
Later, Redco failed to come up with a matching reply under intense pressure and collapsed at 109 in 16 overs. Rajeewa snapped five wickets in his four-over spell, while Janaka claimed three for 22. Raweed was the main scorer with 35, including three sixes and as many boundaries. Saif and Rasmy made 19 and 16, respectively.
In another match, Amarnath put up a brave fightback with Munir and engineered a thrilling QIE’s two-wicket last-over victory against Al Khor Community. Chasing a modest 108-run target, QIE were struggling at eight down for 78. Amarnath and Munir forged an unbroken 30-run partnership to pull off the victory with four balls to spare.
Munir made an unbeaten 24 with two fours, Amarnath smashed four boundaries in his 16-ball 19 not out.
Earlier, Amarnath grabbed three wickets to restrict the rivals. Mazhar had one for 18. Fawaz and Sohel did the bulk of scoring with 35 and 25, respectively.
