The Ministry of Municipality and Environment's (MME) general cleanliness department recently concluded a comprehensive campaign to remove wooden boats that had been abandoned for long periods at various ports in the country. Some 18 wooden boats were removed from the Al Khor and Al Wakrah harbours during the campaign, the MME said in a statement. Safar Mubarak al-Shafi, director of the department, said the campaign was conducted over 10 consecutive days and the abandoned boats were removed and shifted to designated areas. The boats will be disposed of in accordance with applicable regulations if their owners do not approach the department to claim them within the stipulated period, the statement adds.
