An electricity sub-station built for supplying power to the Rayyan Stadium, one of the venues for the FIFA 2022 World Cup, was opened on Sunday in Al Jehaniya area, near the Mall of Qatar and Celebrations Hall Street. Built at the cost of QR90mn, the 40mw capacity power station was completed in a period of 24 months. It started its formal operations on May 30.

Kahramaa's electricity projects chief engineer Ahmed al-Kuwari said the new station is adequate to meet the entire operational requirements of the Rayyan Stadium. Kahramaa has undertaken the work of five power stations for the requirements of the World Cup stadiums and the first was opened to supply Khalifa Stadium before the last Amir Cup Football tournament.

The second has also been opened at Wukair, to feed the World Cup stadium under construction in the area. The one commissioned yesterday was the third in the series. All the new stadiums are adopting the most sophisticated and advanced technologies and even if there is a break down in any of its operational units, it won't affect their functioning.

In the third quarter of the ongoing year, another new station will be commissioned in the northwestern side of Doha. The last of the five stations -- Ras Abu Aboud -- would be opened next year.
