Qatar Airways, sponsor of a number of E-Prix in the 2017-18 ABB FIA Formula E Championship, the electric street racing series, was the Official Airline Partner of the 2018 BMW i Berlin E-Prix held on Saturday in Berlin on the grounds of the historic Tempelhof Airport.
The event marked the first time that Qatar’s national carrier was the official airline sponsor of the event in the German capital.
Earlier this year, the airline enhanced its highly-successful sponsorship of Formula E, proving its commitment to environmentally-friendly initiatives.
Qatar Airways Group chief executive Akbar al-Baker said, “I am delighted that we have extended our sponsorship with Formula E to include the BMW i Berlin E-Prix. This thrilling event celebrates our extensive ties with the German market, which we have proudly served for the last 20 years. This environmentally-friendly sporting partnership fits in perfectly with our own commitment to innovation, as we fly the youngest, most technologically advanced fleet of aircraft in the skies today. We look forward to participating in the upcoming Qatar Airways New York City E-Prix in July.”
Formula E founder and chief executive officer Alejandro Agag said, “We have raced around Berlin in each and every season of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, and it is fitting that Qatar Airways are on board as a partner for the BMW i Berlin E-Prix, as we continue to go places together and deliver electrifying racing to the world’s leading cities – and what a race it was!”
Qatar Airways sponsors multiple world-class sporting events and clubs worldwide, in recognition of the power that sports has in bringing people together. In March, Qatar Airways signed a five-year partnership agreement with leading German club Bayern Munich, under which the award-winning airline will become a platinum partner until June 2023.
Qatar Airways also recently revealed multi-year sponsorship agreements as Official Jersey Sponsor for Italian football club Roma and Argentinian giants Boca Juniors. While the Roma agreement runs through the 2020-21 season, the one with the Argentine football club runs through the 2021-22 season.
As part of a newly-enhanced three-season deal with Formula E, announced in Doha in January this year, the airline will be the title sponsor of the Qatar Airways New York City E-Prix, taking place on July 14 - 15. In addition to supporting Formula E, Qatar Airways is also the Official Airline Partner of FIFA, which includes the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, the FIFA Club World Cup, the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the FIFA Under-20 and Under 17 World Cups, the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, the FIFA Interactive World Cup and the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.
