Environmental and sustainability experts working on 2022 FIFA World Cup projects have participated in an event at Al Bidda Tower to share best practices and lessons learned.
The fourth Environment & Sustainability Knowledge Management Event was organised by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy’s (SC) Technical Delivery Office and the Health, Safety, Security & Environment Division, sc.qa reported.
The event was the latest knowledge sharing forum to be organised by the SC since the inaugural Knowledge Transfer Day in November 2017.
More than 40 attendees participated in the event, including professionals engaged on all the SC’s stadium and training sites, along with representatives from the Doha Port redevelopment project.
The event began with a visit to the SC’s Legacy Pavilion, which showcases Qatar’s football history, the bidding process for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the SC’s numerous legacy programmes, including Workers’ Welfare, Challenge 22, Community Engagement, Generation Amazing and the Josoor Institute.
After the tour, attendees were briefed on the Joint FIFA/SC/LOC Sustainability Strategy and informed about sustainability projects at Al Bidda Tower, including the SC’s Green Office campaign, which encourages staff to reduce, reuse and recycle materials. The group also discussed a system to share best practice and lessons learned from all the SC’s project sites.
Bodour al-Meer, the SC’s Sustainability & Environmental manager, said it was vital to provide a forum for sustainability experts from across the 2022 FIFA World Cup programme to share information.
“It was a pleasure to welcome all our sustainability professionals to Al Bidda Tower and share knowledge about the vast array of projects we are working on,” said al-Meer.
“Attending the Legacy Pavilion helped illustrate the enormity of the project we are going to deliver, while it was extremely useful to brief the wider team about the Sustainability Strategy and gather their feedback. It was also beneficial to share details of our numerous internal projects, which will hopefully inspire other sites to put sustainability at the forefront of everything they do.”
In addition to the meeting at Al Bidda Tower, attendees previously enjoyed visits to three stadium sites – Lusail Stadium, Al Wakrah Stadium and Qatar Foundation Stadium – in order to share knowledge and discuss best practice.
Next month, attendees will visit Al Thumama Stadium.
Khalid al-Kubaisi, chief of the Advisory Unit & Special Projects, said the event supports the SC’s commitment to organisational resilience.
“Projects such as this, which bring together colleagues from across the programme, help us share knowledge and build organisational resilience,” said al-Kubaisi. “It also highlights the importance of sharing best practice and offers an opportunity to communicate our work to a wider audience.”
