The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has recently commenced a series of interactive road shows introducing the National Health Strategy 2018-2022 to the health sector.

The NHS 2018-2022 was officially launched on March 24 during the Middle East Forum on Quality and safety in Healthcare.

The first session at MoPH headquarters introduced the 12 priority areas of the NHS, and the roles of the 12 NHS leads, who were newly appointed by the Minister of Public Health to drive the strategy implementation.

Dr Salih al-Marri, assistant minister of health affairs at MoPH, who is co-presenting at the road shows said, “Before we can deliver the 5-year programme, we must equip staff to understand the NHS principles, the seven Priority Population Groups and the thinking behind these. This is an ambitious strategy, which will ensure Qatar’s population stays healthier and places the patient at the centre of a more integrated health system and model of care.”

The road shows underscore the importance of 19 National Health Targets that are to be achieved by 2022 through collective stakeholder efforts, and explains how in the next stages, implementation will be spearheaded by 12 NHS leads.

So far, NHS road shows have been held at the Ministry of Public Health and Um Salal Primary Health Centre, and will extend to reach employees at Hamad Medical Corporation, Sidra Medicine, Al Wakra and Al Khor in the coming weeks.

The NHS 2018-2022 reflects a global shift in taking a population health approach. It identifies seven priority population groups and five priority areas for system wide focus.

The priority populations reflect an investment in both the current and future generations and in particular, the most vulnerable individuals, including children, mothers, older people and those with special needs.

The system-wide areas focus on the health system continuum, providing a genuinely integrated model of care that strives to maintain wellness, while making sure that people receive well-coordinated care, delivered in a professional and safe environment at the appropriate level.
