In a step towards having a national database for all economic establishments in Qatar, the Cabinet on Wednesday took the necessary measures to issue a draft law on the unified economic register after reviewing the Advisory Council’s recommendations.
The decision was taken at the Cabinet’s regular weekly meeting in Doha on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce had prepared the draft law in the context of having a precise database at the national level for all economic establishments in the country, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
The draft law defines the unified economic register as “a record in which economic establishments and self-employed persons are registered”. It also defines an economic establishment as “an individual enterprise, a company or an entity engaged in any area of the economic sector”, the report states.
Under the provisions of the draft law, the unified economic register shall be established at the ministry to “register Qatari economic establishments and branches, as well as branches of non-Qatari enterprises operating in the country; and persons licensed to practise free professions”.
According to the draft law, all those registered in the economic register will be issued a number called 'unified economic number' to be used in all transactions and papers related to their activity.
The competent department shall determine the mechanism for regulating the unified economic register and the procedures for registration.
In October last year, the Cabinet had approved a draft law on the unified economic register and referred it to the Advisory Council for recommendations.
After HE the Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani chaired the Cabinet’s regular meeting, HE the Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr Hassan bin Lahdan al-Hassan al-Mohannadi said the Cabinet approved a draft law regulating medical treatment abroad and the draft of its executive regulation.
The Ministry of Public Health had prepared the draft law to keep abreast of latest developments in medical treatment. The draft law and draft regulation included many new provisions that would facilitate treatment procedures for Qatari patients abroad and provide them with the best services, QNA reported.
Meanwhile, the meeting gave its nod to a draft decision of the Cabinet amending some provisions of Decision No 33 of 2006 establishing the national committee for port security.
The Cabinet also approved a draft decision of HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment considering the southern area a nature reserve, as well as participation in a Chinese exhibition for promoting tourist destinations, due to be held in China from November 16 to 18.
Further, the Cabinet gave its nod to a draft memorandum of understanding for co-operation in the field of transparency and integrity between the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority in Qatar and the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission in South Korea.
