The Ministry of Culture and Sports yesterday launched a strategy that seeks to create a “cultural, sports and youth system” which is effective and creative to support the society in its movement towards progress.
Aimed at upgrading Qatar to the ranks of developed countries while safeguarding the values of its society, the action plan for the “Cultural Enrichment and Sports Excellence” sector of the Second National Development Strategy is based on the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
The new strategy is based on eight intermediate outcomes that deal with activating governance, raising the level of community participation in cultural events and sports, sponsoring national talent, activating mechanisms of international co-operation and diversifying sources of national income, in addition to strengthening the role of culture as a framework for preserving identity and promoting citizenship and cultural communication, and empowering and rehabilitating young people to work towards achieving sports excellence.
Commenting on the strategy, the Minister of Culture and Sports, HE Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser al-Ali, said that the ministry’s mission is to formulate and prepare the strategy in line with its vision for the development of public ideas, as well as to provide funding for the programmes presented by various bodies to achieve this vision.
He added that the ministry is keen on cooperating with the various sectors, whether legislative or political, to provide an environment suitable to achieve the objectives of the ministry that aim at creating a conscious society and developing the great perceptions of the society and consolidating them.
He stressed that the Ministry of Culture and Sports does not compete with other parties to organise cultural events, but sets plans, strategies and general frameworks for the concerned bodies and partners in the cultural sectors to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030 in the areas of culture, youth and sports.
The programme is based on the principle of choice so that the individual will be active and responsive to the call for building the homeland, the minister noted, adding that this vision is complemented with attention to the body because a healthy lifestyle is a fundamental requirement for progress.
The minister underlined that the plan was designed for changing the Qatari society for the better, so that Qatar will be a pioneering model and the Qatari society will be able to develop its own potential and benefit from its natural and human resources within its cultural identity.
