The Qatar Amiri Air Force yesterday concluded the Saqr 20 exercise, which started on April 22. The closing ceremony was attended by the Commander of the Amiri Air Force, Major General (Pilot) Mubarak Mohamed al-Khayarin, the official Qatar News Agency reported. The Saqr 20 exercise also saw the participation of the Amiri Land Force, Amiri Naval Force and the Joint Special Forces, in co-operation with friendly forces. Saqr 20 is considered the main exercise for the Amiri Air Force, which aims to “highlight the role of the air force in defending the country’s airspace, especially economic zones, and in supporting military operations in terms of land and sea formations with the possibility of transition to joint operations with friendly forces, if necessary”. The aim of the exercise is to train officers and staff officers to plan and control all types of air combat from operation centres and to co-ordinate between all sectors of the internal and external air forces. This year’s edition was a success, the report adds.
