HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Mohammed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi met with executive director and dean of the board at the World Bank Group, Merza Hasan, on the sidelines of his current visit to the United States.

During the meeting, a number of issues were discussed, including the positive relations between Qatar and the World Bank, the challenges of continuing unjustified siege on Qatar and a number of issues such as the prospects of the global economy, economic development and challenges.

The meeting also discussed the initiatives of Qatar to address the issue of drylands and the effects of climate change, the measures adopted by the country to achieve sustainable development through the adoption of environmentally friendly initiatives, and the search for the best ways to achieve the National Vision 2030 in this field.

The agreement with Global Dryland Alliance (GDA) Initiative was signed in Doha on October 15, 2017 as an international organisation for the food security of dryland countries.

He also met with US acting Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs Judith Garber, and discussed the environmental initiatives adopted by Qatar to achieve sustainable development through the adoption of environmentally friendly initiatives in various fields in the country.

He also participated in a roundtable with a number of businessmen at the US-Arab National Chamber of Commerce, where he discussed economic initiatives and investment opportunities offered by Qatar in various fields, especially investments in the environment sector, with a view to opening wider horizons for joint economic cooperation between the two sides.

The minister had reviewed during his participation in a panel discussion at the 50th Waste Treatment Exhibition (WasteExpo 2018) in Las Vegas, Nevada, the achievements of Qatar in the field of waste treatment and water treatment, and the projects that have been implemented and opportunities for companies to invest in this area.

The participation of Qatar in this exhibition, which was held during from April 22 to 27, is of particular importance, based on its keenness to develop the waste treatment sector and to know what has been achieved in this field and how to apply it in the country.
