Al Wakrah overcame a 13-point first quarter to snatch a 97-70 victory over Al Ahli in the Emir Cup basketball tournament last night.
Demarius Bolds with 20, Earnest Ross with 19, Adamu Saaka with 17 were the main scorers for Al Wakrah who trailed 17-30 at the end of the first quarter and 45-48 after the second.
But Al Wakrah’s resurgence in the third quarter was so strong that Al Alhi simply lost their way. In fact they were restricted to a mere four points in 10 minutes, while Al Wakrah managed 24 to take a commanding 69-52 lead.
Although Al Ahli managed to score 18 points in the final session, the momentum stayed with Al Wakrah who scored a whopping 28 to emerge victors by a huge margin
Christopher Jones was the top scorer for Al Ahli with 17, while Nemanja Besovic was second best on 10. None of the other players scored in double figures.
In another match, Qatar Sports Club overcame a 15-20 first quarter deficit to edge out Al Arabi 78-71.
Al Arabi made a fast start but Qatar Sports Club produced a 32-point effort in the second quarter to take a commanding 44-24 lead.
Al Arabi could allow only 13 points in the third period while Qatar Sports Club added 16 to take a 60-37 advantage into the final session.
And although Al Arabi produced a whopping 34 points in a last-gasp effort, they were too far behind to mount a realistic challenge as Qatar Sports Club closed out the match with some degree of comfort.
