Qatar and Russia on Wednesday signed a co-operation agreement in the fields of justice, combating corruption and co-operation in the field of major sports events.
HE the Attorney-General Dr Ali bin Fetais al-Marri and Prosecutor General of Russia, Yury Chaika, signed the agreement.
Dr al-Marri, who is visiting Moscow, said that co-operation between the Public Prosecution in Qatar and its Russian counterpart is not new, adding this agreement renewed the commitment of the two parties to consolidate their partnership.
He noted in a statement after the signing that the agreement also included co-operation in the field of major sports events, especially the organisation of the World Cup.
He added that Russia is about to organise the FIFA World Cup this summer and that a group of Qatar's deputy public prosecutors are scheduled to join their Russian counterparts to share expertise and follow up events, in addition to learn about how to investigate fan-related issues, as such issues will benefit the Qatari side in the management of sports events thereafter.
He also added that a delegation from the Public Prosecution of the Russian Federation is scheduled to visit Doha soon to benefit from Qatar's judicial experience and enhance bilateral co-operation in this field.
