The women’s branch of the Qatar Charity (QC) Centre for Community Development in Al Rayyan organised a series of special events, including awareness lectures, in honour of the winners of cultural competitions held in March.
These activities came as a result of the “keenness of QC’s local development department to spread cultural awareness among different segments of the local community, including students, women and the centre’s members”, the organisation said in a press statement.
Preacher Safiyah al-Mahana presented a lecture, encouraging the attending girls to do good work.
Members of the centre were honoured by Maryam Bint Imran Centre for the Teaching of the Holy Qur’an for winning the competition held on Salat (Prayer), in which the centre participates annually.
The trainer, Anoud al-Thani, gave a lecture on the risks of social media using the interactive dialogue method in co-operation with the police training centre, in which she advised girls to exercise caution while using social media.
The centre also co-operated with the Public Gardens Department at the Ministry of Municipality and the Environment in a tree-planting activity.
Students of Hedaya School for Special Needs participated in the activity in the presence of the school’s staff members, showing a great deal of interaction in planting trees in the school garden. They also took part in a competition held on the occasion and received gifts.
In conjunction with World Kidney Day, the centre held a special day for children with kidney problems in co-operation with Hamad General Hospital, which was attended by a number of guests, parents and officials from Sidra Medicine, the statement noted.
The centre also organised a recreational trip for girls to the Jungle Zone before school examinations and tests of the Holy Qur’an at the centre.
The women’s branch of the Qatar Charity Centre for Community Development in Al Rayyan plans to host a series of cultural and social activities this month in collaboration with Al Ta'awon Primary Independant School for Girls, Granada Independent Preparatory School for Girls, Taiba Primary School and Diet Café, in addition to religious lectures for the holy month of Ramadan.
