Cultural Village Foundation Katara, in collaboration with the Romanian embassy, recently hosted Romanian Folklore Night. The event featured Junii Sibiului, the Romanian folk ensemble. Held at Katara Drama Theatre, the event was attended by Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, Katara General Manager, Cristian Tudor, Ambassador of Romania to Qatar, and representatives of other diplomatic missions. The event follows the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Romanian Republic and marks a very special day for the Romanian people.
On the occasion, the ambassador said that it was a great chance to celebrate the day with friends in Qatar and to strengthen bonds with the people of Qatar. He expressed his deep felt thanks to the organisers in Katara for making efforts to host the event again.
Silvia Macrea, Director of the Junni Sibiului band, said that the performance included a number of folkloric items that reflected the traditions of different cities in Romania such as Maramure, Tanjaua, Câmpia, Bihor, Oltenia, Moldavia, Bistria, Muntenia, Banat, Transylvania, and Hârtibaciu. Junni Sibiului is a world class folklore band that aims to preserve the heritage of Romania and performs all around the world.
