The wife of Indian cricketer Mohamed Shami yesterday alleged that her husband would have run away to Uttar Pradesh and divorced her had she not found a mobile phone which was allegedly being used by him to speak to other women.
“I tried to convince him that he should accept his mistake, I have been trying since very long. He would’ve run away to UP by now if I did not catch hold of that mobile phone; he would’ve divorced me if I did not have the mobile phone,” Hasin Jahan said at a press conference.
She alleged that her husband is making up stories to save himself.
“He’s making up all sorts of things to save himself from allegations. Why didn’t the media investigate even after I gave them all details? I have tried several times to convince him to save our marriage. If he wants to come back I may still consider,” she added.
On Friday, Shami was charged with attempt to murder on the basis of a complaint filed by his wife. Seven charges have been levelled against the fast bowler, one of them being attempt to murder by “food poisoning and physical attack”.
A rape charge has also been levelled against Shami’s elder brother.
“I have suffered a lot. Previously, I did not get any help regarding this. I tried a lot. So I decided to post all of Shami’s wrongdoing on FB. I never had any intention of spreading dirt on FB or to entertain people,” Hasin Jahan said.
“This is my fight against his unacceptable acts,” she added.
She vented her ire over her posts being removed from Facebook, saying her intentions were to seek a way out of her prolonged suffering.
“I have tried to save many girls’ lives by posting all of that. I tried to help boys not go the same way. But why did FB block my account and remove all the posts without my permission?
“My life has been spoiled. My future has gone down the drain, also my daughter’s.”
Shami, who has denied the allegations, said yesterday he was ready to speak to his wife and solve the matter for the good of their daughter.
“If this matter can be solved by talking, nothing can be better than that. Only patch-up will do good for us and our daughter,” Shami was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Shami also said he is ready to travel to Kolkata to solve the matter.
“If I have to go to Kolkata to solve the matter, I will. I am ready to talk, whenever she wants,” Shami said.
