The Advisory Council yesterday held its weekly session under the chairmanship of HE the Speaker of the Advisory Council Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud.
During the session, the Council discussed the report of the joint committee formed by the legal and legislative affairs committee and internal and external affairs committee to study a draft law on national service.
The Speaker initiated the discussions, stressing the national, educational and security importance of the draft law.
The draft law was also the subject of extensive study and deliberation by the joint committee formed by the legal and legislative affairs committee and internal and external affairs committee.
HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah attended the meeting and answered questions raised by members and explained all aspects of the draft law.
The Speaker said the draft law on national service has gained additional importance under the current circumstances in the country, which requires mobilising the energies of all citizens, especially young people on whom the country depends for its present and
future.
In the presence of a number of members of the Advisory Council and after extensive discussions characterised by objectivity, keenness on the national interest, full awareness of the necessity and importance of the draft law and its positive results, the Council approved the draft law and decided to refer it along with amendments and recommendations to the
Cabinet.
The Council also reviewed a report on its participation in the North African and Middle East (Mena) regional conference on human rights and business held recently in
Rabat, Morocco.
The Council’s delegation briefed the conference on the experience of Qatar with regard to the rights of expatriate workers working in the country, enjoying their rights and a secure, stable and decent life. (QNA)
