The University Foundation College hosted an event yesterday for year 12 pupils to find out about foundation courses in the UK and other countries. These courses, upon successful completion, provide a pathway to entering year one of a bachelor’s honours degree at a university.
The Foundation Providers in attendance were Kaplan, Navitas, Oxford Education Group and Plymouth University International College.
University Foundation College is the first educational institution to be awarded a licence by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to open a Student Application Centre in the college where academic counselling is available to everyone in the community besides their own students. The college is offering this service in conjunction with SIUK (Study at a UK University), which is the leading provider of free, independent advice and support to international students applying to study in the UK.
With its head office in Oxford Street in London and a global network of 23 offices, SIUK has helped tens of thousands international students join UK universities since its inception in 2006.
University Foundation College also offers its own foundation programmes which are taught here in Doha. The course is validated by the Northern Consortium of UK Universities based in Manchester University who guarantee students a place at one of their 16 partner universities in the UK upon completion of the course which is regarded as equivalent to British A levels.
Students typically study a range of subjects including English for one academic year at a college often based on the university campus where they will be progressing to study on an undergraduate degree course later. The courses not only provide students with the academic qualifications to enter a three-year degree programme but also the study skills and language abilities to thrive in a higher education environment. Furthermore, they also have a year to adjust to living away from home in an overseas location.
