The Qatar Football Association President, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani, received Massimo Busacca, Director of the FIFA Refereeing Department, at the QFA headquarters in Al Bidda Tower on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by Hani Ballan, Vice Chairman of FIFA Referees’ Committee, Chairman of AFC Referees’ Committee, and Chairman of QFA Referees’ Committee, and Mushtaq al-Waeli, Executive Director of Strategy and Institutional Development of the QFA.
When asked about the support received by QFA and Qatar during the period of the seminars, Massimo Busacca, Director of the FIFA Refereeing Department said: “I already said during those 3 weeks while we are here in Doha, I think we could not have had better hospitality and better logistics and infrastructures, nothing was missing. For that reason, I have to really thank the QFA and all the staff that compose this incredible team that is working with Hani Ballan, Neji Jouini, Ahmad al-Attar and all the people that helped us to succeed in the three big events we hosted here. It was really perfect, incredible hospitality, and this is what we need, what football team needs when they have to prepare, and what referee team needs when they have to prepare. Infrastructure, good co-operation, good relationships is what is needed. FIFA can be really happy about the success of the seminars held in Doha.”
When asked about the improvement of Qatari referees and Asian referees in general after attending a few matches in Qatar including AFC Champions League matches he commented: “A lot, in all confederations. Since I started in FIFA 7 years ago, I can tell you we changed all our projects completely, we put the priority, our expectation, our target, we informed everyone in all confederations. Today we want the referees to make sacrifices on physical aspects, technical, medical and honestly, Asia did the sacrifice very well, and today they have top referees representing everywhere in the world. But really, all confederations are doing the same, even Africa, at the beginning our projects were not so many, today I see big improvement and of course there we have good talents, and good referees that can represent FIFA.”
