India’s Ministry of External Affairs has awarded 150 scholarships to children (studying in India) of PIOs/NRIs and Indian workers working in ECR countries, with a monthly gross income of the parents not more than $4,500. A statement from the Indian embassy said a partial assistance to the extent of 75% (maximum of $4,500) of the total Institutional Economic Cost (IEC) per annum would be borne by the Government of India under the scheme covering institutions such as i) NITs, IITs, Schools of Planning and Architecture,  ii) ‘A’ Grade institutions accredited by the National Accreditation and Assessment Committee and recognised by the University Grants Commission, iii) Central Universities of India and iv) Other institutions covered under DASA Scheme. Those eligible may apply for the scholarship accordingly under the scholarship programme for the diaspora children scheme.
