Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) has announced that ambassador Daniel Benjamin aims to offer some insight into recent shifts in US policy towards the Gulf region at an upcoming talk.
The lecture, titled ‘US-GCC Relations in an Era of Disruption’, will be held on GU-Q’s Education City campus at 6pm today.
Benjamin is director of the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding at Dartmouth College and has previously served as ambassador-at-large and co-ordinator for counterterrorism at the US State Department.
In this role, he was the principal counterterrorism adviser to then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The talk will focus on the changing nature of the US’ involvement in the Gulf, including its engagements with disputes between nations and its stance towards regional powers.
It will also explore how Gulf countries can strengthen their voice in US deliberations, even as the nation moves to decrease its reliance on foreign energy imports.
