Bayern Munich’s women’s football team will play a friendly against Qatar at the Qatar Women’s Sports Committee ground in Aspire Zone today as part of an initiative to promote bilateral sporting ties between Qatar and Germany. The match begins at 5.30pm.
Bayern Munich have been camping in Qatar for a few days now during which they took part in several local engagements. They were also feted by the Qatar Women’s Sports Committee at the Qatar Islamic Museum.
Ms. Lulua al-Marri, Chairperson of the Qatar Women Sports Committee said: “We are happy to welcome the Bayern Munich team which is one of the most well known teams in the world. I thank them for choosing Qatar for their training camp. I hope that the Qatar women’s team will benefit from their match against Bayern Munich.
“Qatar has been hosting several women’s events and has also won several medals at the international level. Girls are taking a keen interest in sports thanks to the support of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, who has made a rich contribution to the cause of women’s empowerment.”
During their camp in Qatar, the Bayern team also visited the Qatar Olympic Committee’s Sealine camp besides getting themselves acquainted with Qatar’s culture and traditions.
Germany’s ambassador to Qatar Hans-Udo Muzel praised the sporting ties between the two countries and thanked the Qatar Women’s Sports Committee for their initiative in inviting the Bayern Munich team.
