Attacking midfielder Madson played a stellar role as home team Al Khor beat Al Kharaitiyat 2-0 in Week 14 of the QNB Stars League yesterday.
Ariel Thierry (11th minute) and Madson (15th) scored the early goals. Cameroonian striker Thierry was on target following a near-perfect cross from Madson, who picked up the ball from the centre and then quickly charged down the left flank before swooping into the Al Kharaitiyat box.
Once inside the box, Madson spotted fellow striker Thierry on the other side of the shooting range and slipped in a neat cross. Thierry, in one motion, flicked the ball past Al Kharaitiyat goalkeeper Ahmed Sofyan who could do little to stop it.
Madson once again impressed with his quick pace while getting into the scoring act himself. He picked up a cross from the centre of the field and charged towards the rival goal. Just a few feet from the box, the stocky Brazilian noticed the goalkeeper had charged out of his position.
He launched a curling shot that sailed above the goalkeeper’s head and into the net in what was a spectacular strike. Three minutes from the half-time, Madson produced another tearing run, but his shot from inside the box hit the outside of the net. The score remained the same in the second half and Al Khor collected three valuable points.
Al Kharaitiyat sack coach Al-Ajlani
Hours after their loss, Al Kharaitiyat dismissed Tunisian coach Ahmad al-Ajlani yesterday. The club management, under the presidency of Sheikh Khalifa bin Thamer al-Thani, also relieved al-Ajlani’s assistant Tawfiq Zaboub and handed over the reins to Yasser al-Sibai.
Al-Ajlani’s dismissal came in the wake of Al Kharaitiyat’s decline resulting in a series of negative results. They are staring at relegation being in the 11th position with only nine points, having lost nine matches.

Al Ahli draw with Umm Salal
Al Ahli fought back to hold Umm Salal to a 1-1 draw in Week 14 of the QNB Stars League at the Al Gharafa Stadium, where the latter play their home matches, yesterday.
Ivorian striker Yannick Sagbo gave Umm Salal the advantage in the 25th minute that was neutralised by Tunisian attacking midfielder Yassine Chikhaoui in the 88th.
Al Ahli earned a penalty in the 55th when Chikhaoui was brought down by Dahqani, who was sent off following a second yellow by referee Salman Falahi and Meshaal Abdullah skied the resultant penalty.
After making many attempts, Chikhaoui finally saved Al Ahli’s blushes with an on-the-turn shot from the edge of the big box that had brilliance written all over it. Al Ahli too were reduced to 10 men as Fadhl Omar saw red for violent play.
