A US senator announced on Tuesday she is pregnant with her second child, saying on Twitter she "wanted to share some exciting personal news."
Senator Tammy Duckworth made the announcement with a post showing four yellow duck figures and the words "Duck, duck, duck ... duckling."
Duckworth, 49, is a Democrat representing the Midwestern state of Illinois. She is pregnant with a girl and is due to give birth in April shortly after her 50th birthday, according to news reports. That will make her the first sitting senator to give birth.
Duckworth is a retired Illinois National Guard lieutenant colonel who lost her legs fighting in Iraq in 2004.
She gave birth to her first child, also a girl, in 2014 when she was a member of the House of
Representatives.
