QU-CPH students hold awareness campaign on common cold, allergies

Qatar University College of Pharmacy (QU-CPH) students have held a public awareness campaign on ‘Common Cold and Allergies’ at Landmark Mall.
Organised by the newly elected Qatar Pharmacy Undergraduate Society (QPhUS) executives, the campaign engaged undergraduate, graduate and alumni pharmacy students.
The initiative aimed to raise community awareness on common cold, seasonal flu and allergies, and provide tips to prevent the spread of infection such as hand-washing and vaccination, QU said in a statement.
CPH students were on hand at a booth to answer the questions of more than 170 visitors on issues related to flu vaccines, causes of common cold and flu, common allergens observed in the region and ways to avoid spreading the cold.
Commenting on the campaign, CPH dean Dr Mohamed Diab said: “The College of Pharmacy is committed to providing its students with the opportunity to connect with the public through outreach initiatives and to educating them and raising their awareness about important health issues and common illness under the supervision
of our expert professors.
“This campaign is part of a series of various outreach initiatives that have been conducted in the past, including smoking cessation and diabetes, to prepare our students to provide optimal pharmaceutical care upon graduation.”
CPH assistant professor Dr Sowndramalingam Sankaralingam said, “Visitors to our booth expressed their gratitude to have the opportunity to learn from students of the College of Pharmacy and mentioned that they are looking forward to attending future similar events.”
QPhUS president and second-year pharmacy student Sarah Thiab noted, “Our knowledge is gained to be spread. I found it amazing how the people of Qatar are very receptive and willing to learn.”
 Third-year pharmacy student Radoa Abdulla al-Ansari added, “I have volunteered in this outreach event hoping that I could help people in improving their quality of life and health.”
