QU college wins top honours in national and global events

CPH students receive an award at the 6th International Pharmaceutical Conference.

Three faculty members and seven students from Qatar University College of Pharmacy (QU-CPH) achieved a number of wins for their research projects presented at national and international events.
CPH assistant professor Dr Hazem Elewa and MSc student Loolia Badr won the Best Poster Award at the “Annual Research Day” recently organised by Hamad Medical Corp (HMC) Medical Research Centre, for his project titled, “The effect of genetic and non-genetic factors on warfarin dose variability in Qatar Population”. Postgraduate pharmacy students, Farah Zahrah, Sara Abdulrahim and Nour Isleem won the Best Student Poster Award at the 4th Qatar International Pharmacy Conference.
Titled, “Physical comorbidities and their management in patients with severe mental illness”, the poster was supervised by CPH assistant professor of pharmacy Dr Monica Zolezzi. Additionally, QU CPH fourth year pharmacy student Ola Hussein, Licia Shamoun and Dima Kawas won the 2nd Best Poster Award at the 6th International Pharmaceutical Conference ZTIPC 2017 organised by Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan Faculty of Pharmacy and University of Toledo College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences under the theme, “New Horizons in Pharmaceutical Research”.
The research, “Discovery of Novel Plant Derived Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors as Potential Neuroprotective Agents” was conducted under the supervision of CPH associate professor of medicinal chemistry Dr Ashraf Khalil.
CPH Dean Dr Mohamed Diab said, “The participation of our faculty and students in these conferences give them the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities and knowledge in line with the CPH vision to advance healthcare in Qatar and beyond.”
