Qatar population stood at 2.64 million at the end of 2017, according to a communique from the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS).

The latest figures put the population at 2,642,000 against 2,683,000 on November 30, which means there was a fall of 41,000. The fall is apparently owing to the annual vacation as usual when a considerably large number of residents are away from the country.
Though there was a fall of 0.5% in actual numbers, there was an increase of 1.5% compared to the figures of the corresponding period last year. There were only 2,597,000 people in Qatar on December 31, 2016, according to MDPS figures. In the previous month there were approximately 2,637,000 residents in the country.
Usually, the population falls in December compared to the previous month.
The highest in recent months was in May when the MDPS reported the population as having touched 2.70 million mark for the first time ever.
The lowest figure in recent times was 2.44 million last August when a large chunk of the residents was away on holidays.
According to the available figures, the population keeps growing steadily between January and May end.
