People interested in dresses and clothing brands from Pakistan are in for a treat: a Pakistani businesswoman has opened up a boutique that offers multiple Pakistani brands under a single roof.
Noreen Alaas, owner of the Riwaaj boutique at Target Mall, has been living in Qatar for 10 years with her husband and two kids.
Talking to Community, Noreen said that her motivation came straight from a deep passionate love for trendy clothes. The desire forced her to start her own business.
“About four years ago, I planned to start a small business from home only. I started selling famous Pakistani branded clothes. After getting a good response, I opened a boutique in Asia Mall located in the Matar Qadeem area. My business was on the rise, when the mall was closed due to some unknown reasons. This had a disheartening effect on me and my dream about being a successful businesswoman in Qatar.”
She added, “Though down in my spirits, I am trying again. I am happy as I have gotten another opportunity. I have not given up yet. With the help and support of my husband, family, and friends I have once again opened my boutique Riwaaj in Target Mall. We sell famous Pakistani brands like Maria B, Sana Safinaz, Gul Ahmed, Baroque and many more on reasonable rates, as compared to the other boutiques in Qatar. We also have readymade and party wear clothes. The best part of our boutique is that we offer tailoring services too.”
When asked to share more about her family and business, she said, “My husband is a civil engineer and has been running his own company. I love South Asian fashion, so I thought to start this business. My main target is to keep lowest prices for trendy clothes from Pakistan. I mostly stock lawn brands for women. We also have party wear dresses at reasonable prices.”
Noreen noted, “In my new boutique, I have introduced a tailoring facility. My main target is Pakistani and Indian communities in Qatar. Right now I have started with women dresses, but in future I have plans to bring collections for men and children as well.”
Speaking about Qatar as a market, she said, “My experience of doing business here is very good. Qatar is a fast growing country. I love Qatar because it gives me security and a friendly environment for the business. I plan to expand my business here.
“I have learnt from my personal business experiences that one should never give up. We do not need to lose our hope. All women who want to do business, should accept the challenges. Pakistani women need to get engaged and should start their businesses in Qatar.”
Rahat Mansoor Ali, president of Pakistan Women’s Association Qatar (PWA-Q), was the chief guest on the occasion and inaugurated the boutique.
Talking to Community, Rahat said, “Noreen is an enthusiastic woman. She takes interest in her business. She is hardworking and that is why she has succeed in setting up her boutique again. She has seen a good opportunity in selling clothes of Pakistani brands here. It is good to see Pakistani businesswomen succeeding in Qatar.”
She added, “Women, especially from South Asian countries, need to come up and start their own businesses. I always urge women to stand up and be counted. It is not necessary that a woman should start a job or a business when her family needs her support, but she should always strive for self-growth and learning. If a woman is educated and grows in stature, she can be helpful to her family, her friends, her community, her country, and even to the world.”
Rahat further said, “Women have a good working environment in Qatar. The country offers a lot of opportunities for female entrepreneurs. Qatar is very welcoming. The country welcomes the world. Furthermore, as expatriate communities we should also take part in the growth of Qatar. We should pay back to this country that has provided us with a lot of opportunities and a better standard of life.”
