The 2018 Hyundai Ioniq, available in Qatar at Skyline Automotive, the official distribution partner of Hyundai Motors in Qatar, has earned the Women’s World Car of the Year Supreme Award.
The top prize is given by the all-female jury comprising respected international automotive journalists. Jurors called the Ioniq, Hyundai Motor’s innovative model that offers three electrified powertrains, a “clear winner” among more than 400 initial contenders, and also awarded the vehicle the top honour in the competitive Green Car category.
The Ioniq is the “first eco-focused vehicle platform in the world” to offer Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and Electric models.
Hyundai’s approach for the Ioniq line delivers an “uncompromising design and driving experience coupled with the latest in safety and convenience technologies, making it an appealing choice for awi de range of buyers”,
according to a statement.
For the awards competition, all three Ioniq vraiants were considered and treated as one car for voting purposes.
“The car that wins the Supreme Award has gone through a rigorous test by 25 judges from 20 different countries who are on the panel of Women’s World Car of the Year,” said Sandy Myhre, CEO, Women’s World Car of the Year. “It’s a democratic process and cars that have won in different categories and the supreme winner really have to stand out.”
The jurors called the Ioniq a “clear winner” and a “standout”, especially in a year of extremely tight competition.
“Ioniq was designed for drivers who appreciate all forms of sustainable powertrain options and represents a significant step forward for eco-friendly driving,” said Byung Kwon Rhim, executive vice-president and COO, Hyundai Motor. “Earning the unique honour of the Supreme Award from the judges of the Women’s World Car of the Year demonstrates that the Ioniq has achieved a new benchmark for performance in an environmentally
friendly package.”
The Ioniq also earned the 2017 Green Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, and has been named a Green Car of the Year finalist
by the Green Car Journal.
