The Qatari sailing team arrived in Croatia to participate in the 2017
Laser Europa Cup, which will begin from today. Qatar will be represented
by Waleed al-Sharshani, Hassan al-Tamimi, Faris al-Bakri, Ali Muftah
and Abdulrhaman al-Nasr. The event will bring together a huge number of
the best sailors in the world.
SOP organising committee holds technical meet
The organising committee of the Schools Olympic Program (SOP) held a
technical meeting on Tuesday with the directors of the competitions. The
meeting focused lights on the latest arrangements for the finals of the
SOP competitions.
Abdulrahman al-Muftah, Executive Director of the Qatar School Sport
Association (QSSA), Dr Salah Salem, the QSSA Technical Expert and the
directors of the competitions attended the meeting. An estimated 400
schools of both boys and girls are competing in 11 SOP events including
football, handball, volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, swimming,
athletics, table tennis, fencing, tennis and shooting in the Schools
Olympic Program this year.
The SOP is held annually as a collaborative effort of the QSSA and
Ministry of Education and Higher Education, with hundreds of student
athletes competing from all over Qatar. The SOP committee aims to spread
a culture of sports throughout Qatar’s schools and to engage the entire
community in active and healthy lifestyles while retaining local values
and traditions.
Qatar Beach Volleyball team trains in Slovenia
Qatar’s beach volleyball team of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan are
training in Slovenia’s Ljubljana to prepare for the upcoming
tournaments. During the ten-day camp, Younousse and Tijan will play many
friendly matches as well as take part in joint training session with
Slovenian counterparts.
Qatar’s beach volleyball team will participate in the 4-star
international championship, which will be held in the Netherlands from
January 3 to 7.
The 2017 Laser Europa Cup will begin today in Croatia.
