Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) Chief Executive Officer HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohamed bin Saud al-Thani underlined that Qatar National Day (QND) is an important day for everyone on this precious land, adding that it strengthens and renews the feeling of belonging of citizens and residents, and has a positive impact on the national fabric.
Speaking on the occasion of National Day celebrations, Sheikh Abdullah praised Qatar’s diplomacy “which is characterised with openness and transparency with all countries of the world. This characteristic helped it
overcome the crisis.”
He added that the success of the state in securing the country’s full needs proved the advance levels of the plans and the high-quality crisis management in the state. “Additionally, the crisis led to unity between citizens and residents.”
QIA has recently realised many achievements, including continuous implementation of the new strategy, which was approved by the board of directors and the Supreme Council for Economic Affairs and Investment in 2015. The new strategy calls for increasing liquidity in the portfolio by investing in index portfolios and fixed income bonds, and raising the proportion of investments in North America, specifically in the United States, as the performance of the US stock markets were excellent during this period.
QIA also established a New York-based subsidiary to assist in investing in the US market and to support the activities of the Investment Authority there, including the establishment of relations with major investors and investment funds. QIA was able to support national financial market and compensate for withdrawals of funds deposited by the siege countries and their institutions.
QIA aims to develop, invest and manage state reserve funds in the coming period. Therefore, the preparation for the use of reserves in exceptional cases will be within the main functions of the Investment Authority. QIA also aims to continue the implementation of the new strategy to improve the liquidity of the portfolio, the performance of foreign investments and the performance of national subsidiaries of Qatar Investment Authority.
