Doha International Centre for Interfaith Dialogue expressed its condemnation of the US president’s acknowledgement of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, pointing out that the decision will eliminate the hopes of the peace process, coexistence between religions and cultures and will destroy Jerusalem’s international status as an icon of peace and a global centre for dialogue among civilisations.
The centre said yesterday in a statement that Jerusalem is the capital of the State of Palestine and that any change to its status adversely affects the entire peace process and opens the way for violence and conflict, which will not exclude any country in the region.
The centre also called on the United States to reconsider its decision on Jerusalem, which is provoking the feelings of more than 1.5bn Muslims around the world, and is creating many crises in the region.
The centre stressed the Arab status of Jerusalem, calling for rationalisation in any step that may affect the status of this holy city.
In a related context, the centre called for constructive dialogue to resolve all outstanding political and international issues as the only solution to all problems and as dialogue is the only path to understanding between peoples and races.
Meanwhile, Arab Parliament Speaker Dr Mishaal bin Fahm al-Salami has called for an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss the repercussions of the American administration’s decision to recognise the occupied city of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and its plan to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city.
