Sadhvi Krishna Sunil of New Vision Badminton Academy notched a double at the Star Sports Aeroplane Qatar Open Badminton tournament by clinching the Under-15 and Under-17 titles at the four-day championship held at the Gems American Academy, Al Wakrah.
Sadhvi edged Joan Mary Thomas, also a trainee of New Vision Badminton Academy, in both the categories. In the Under-15 final, Sadhvi defeated Mary 21-14, 21-11 and in the Under-17, she got past her opponent with a scoreline of 21-19, 21-4.
A host of players from the academy shone in different age categories.
In the Under-9 category, the academy trainees finished as runners up in boy’s singles and girls singles. In the Under-11, the academy players took the second runner-up spot in the boy’s singles and runners-up in girl’s singles. In the Under-13, the second runner-up in the boy’s singles went to the academy cadets while in the Under-15 girls final featured both the academy trainees.
Coaches Manoj Sahibjan and Kesit Sutrisno were delighted with the performance of their players in the tournament.
The two coaches, who have been into coaching for the last several years, reiterated that the success of players would not have been possible without the sincere co-operation of parents.
“It’s New Vision’s Badminton Academy objective to ensure that new talents are groomed to international standards ensuring quality and utmost attention at their coaching facilities in Cambridge School in Abu Hamour and American Academy in Al Thumama,” said Sahibjan.
