Kuwait’s dedication to resolve the Gulf crisis is being lauded by people on social media, popular radio host Obaid Tahir told Qatar Urdu Radio’s live show Haqeeqat yesterday. He spoke about the 38th session of of the Supreme Council of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on the show.
“Most people in the GCC have been very vocal about their opinions of the Gulf crisis on social media but they were almost unanimous in their praise for the efforts of the Kuwaiti leadership in recent months to resolve the crisis,” Tahir explained.
He was of the opinion that even when some leaders of the blockading countries did not show up at the GCC Summit, the fact that they sent their representatives was a sign of hope.
“We know that in the past some countries outright refused to be a part of any summit that had Qatar in it but Kuwait’s success lies in bringing people from all Gulf countries together on a table for the first time since the beginning of the siege.”
He said Qatar’s media has handled the crisis with great sensitivity, reiterating the comments made by the CEO of Qatar Media Corporation HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad al-Thani during the fourth annual Gulf Studies Forum organised by the Arab Centre for Research and Policy Studies.
“Qatar’s media has been very transparent and rigorous in reporting truth during the last six months of the Gulf crisis, and has maintained all journalistic values and principles in their reports, as mentioned by HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad al-Thani.”
Haqeeqat, which aims to engage and interact with the large South Asian expatriate community in Qatar, is a joint venture of the Gulf Times and Qatar Media Corp Urdu Radio. The show is hosted by Saif-ur-Rehman.
