Darrius Oldham scored a match-high 30 points, while JR Jolis excelled
with 20 as Al Sadd edged out Al Khor 84-79 in the Qatar Basketball
League at the Al Gharafa Sports Club yesterday.
Mozer Huie and Nasser al-Rayes were the other scorers for Al Sadd who
overcame a nine-point deficit at the end of the second quarter (40-31)
to turn the tables on Al Khor.
There was precious little to choose between the two teams who were
locked 16-all after the first period but Khor upped the ante with 24
points in the next 10 minutes to gain what they thought was a
substantial advantage.
However, it was Al Sadd’s turn to prove their mettle in the third
session as they scored 27 points while restricting their rivals to just
11.
That gave them a 58-51 advantage going into the decisive period which
saw both teams go on a scoring spree but Al Sadd held their nerve to
clinch a thrilling win.
Khobi Williamson scored 29 points for Al Khor, while Darrell Blackmon Jr had 18.
In another match, Al Gharafa defeated Qatar Sports Club 87-89 with Sammy
Monroe Jr excelling for the winners with 29 points. James Justice Jr
with 19 and Mychal Ammons with 17 lent Monroe valuable support.
For Qatar Sports club, Jaxen Baden top-scored with 25 points, while Nicholas West and Brandan Kearney had 16 each.
