The chances of rain are expected to improve by this weekend and there will also be a “noticeable drop” in temperature in the coming period, especially early next week, the Qatar Met department has said.

The weather office also said clear to partly cloudy skies are likely to continue prevailing around the country on Monday and Tuesday and there is a possibility of isolated rain.

In a report, the Met department said a “state of instability is expected to affect the country due to the passage of a low-pressure system in the upper levels of the atmosphere” from Wednesday (November 22). It will reach its peak during the weekend, when the atmospheric conditions will become favourable for scattered rain, which may be thundery at times.

Northwesterly fresh to strong winds are expected to blow from Friday (November 24), causing high waves and a noticeable drop in temperatures, especially early next week, when the minimum may drop below 15C in the central and southern parts of Qatar, the report stated.

Some rain was reported from places on Sunday, especially areas located in northeastern parts of the country, the Met department informed on social media. Thundery cells were detected in the northeastern areas – both inshore and offshore, it added.

Monday’s detailed forecast, meanwhile, says it will be hazy in inshore areas in the early hours of the day, followed by mild daytime conditions. It will also be partly cloudy at times and there is a chance of rain in some places.

Hazy and partly cloudy to cloudy conditions have been forecast for offshore areas, which may also receive rain in some places.

Meanwhile, a minimum temperature of 19C is likely on Monday in Abu Samra, Wakrah and Mesaieed, and 24C in Doha. The maximum, on the other hand, will be 30C in Doha, Al Khor and Abu Samra.

Sunday, a minimum temperature was recorded in 19C in Abu Samra and Batna, while in Doha it was 23C.
