The Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah met here yesterday with the Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Abul Gheit.
The meeting reviewed the regional situation in general and the developments on a number of issues that are of priority in the Arab region during the current period.
Abul Gheit’s spokesman Minister Plenipotentiary Mahmoud Afifi said  the meeting dealt with means to maintain the security and stability of the Arab region, especially in light of the escalating challenges and threats facing a number of countries and the region in general.
The meeting also discussed the continued armed conflicts in Syria, Libya and Yemen as well as increasing foreign interference in the internal affairs of the Arab countries, in a way that might affect their sovereignty and territorial integrity, Afifi said.
The two sides stressed the importance of working to maintain unity and internal cohesion in various Arab countries, to tackle the attempts of foreign interference, and to bridge the gap in  views between the Arab parties, he added.
Afifi commended the keenness of the emir of Kuwait on a key role for the Arab League during this important stage, and his support for the work of the secretary-general and the Arab League, while underlining the importance of activating its role in interaction for various Arab issues. He also pointed to Abul Gheit’s appreciation of the emir of the State of Kuwait, and his admiration of the leading role played by the emir and the State of Kuwait in supporting joint Arab action in various political, economic, social and humanitarian areas as well as for Arab League activities.
This is exemplified by the hosting of the International Conference on the suffering of the Palestinian Children, in light of Israel’s violation of the Convention on the Child Rights on November 12 and 13.
